BiographyJean Burgess Barber, age 73, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Emory Eastside Medical Center. Jean was born on July 30, 1937 to Roy and Gertrude Eason in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating from the University of Corpus Christi, she became a teacher. She taught Kindergarten at Mableton Elementary for more than 20 years retiring in 1998. She was a former member of Mableton First Baptist Church, and a current member of Fortified Hills Baptist Church where she spent 28 years as the Media Center Director. She taught numerous classes at conferences on Media Centers. Since her marriage to Weyman Barber she became active at the Avondale First Baptist Church. Jean loved gospel music and attending gospel concerts with the "Inspirations" being her favorite. She was a supporter of KEEP COBB BEAUTIFUL, the Library Book Sale and the Mable House. She was a HUGE fan of the Atlanta Braves and John Wayne. She loved crocheting, scrapbooking and traveling. She traveled to Iceland, Isreal, Scotland, Alaska and throughout the United States. Three very important things to Jean were reading, learning and children and she loved to laugh and have fun.
